You might relate to the reason why I moved from New York to Miami: more space to breathe and to escape the intense level of stress I experienced living in the city during the height of the pandemic.
New York City is a magical place to live, and was a formidable part of my life journey, but as my personal needs and preferences evolve, I’ve discovered that full-time New York is no longer the best place for me to thrive as a person and entrepreneur.
When I moved to Miami almost three years ago, I had no idea just how much it would transform my life on so many levels, including positively impacting my mental health, fitness routine, productivity, and stress levels.
The Miami Beach lifestyle is a blend of balmy weather, healthful living, and vibrant community. Living here full-time has been a huge transformation for me on so many levels and has shown me how impactful our environment is to our overall well being.
My Miami Travel Guide
Even if you don’t live in Miami full time, a weekend getaway or a week-long escape is a fantastic way to take in the incredible experiences this city has to offer. Though I’ve called Miami’s elevated island life home for the last few years, I still can’t help but feel like I’m on vacation when I wander into my favorite spots.
With autumn in full swing, the 80-degree weather is likely calling your name. So if you find yourself searching for the next flight to MIA, here are my favorite ways to unwind and soak up the best of the city for a few days!
Where to Stay
Whether you want a wellness-focused stay or something with a trendy feel, Miami has plenty of options to satisfy your mood. No matter where you stay in Miami, you’ll find a unique mix of calm, warmth, and vibrant energy. Below are some of my top picks for where to stay, where to go, and what to do:
Beach is Better
For a more quiet and upscale stay on Miami Beach, I recommend Faena Hotel. Though a pricier option, if you’re looking to splurge or celebrate a special moment, the luxe feel, gorgeous views, and impeccable service will make for an unforgettable and luxurious stay in Miami. If you’re looking for some serious self-care, their Tierra Santa Healing House is one of my favorite spas for massages and facials.
Best Rooftop Scene
With a focus on eco-friendliness and sustainability (even the room card keys are made from wood!), a stay at the 1 Hotel South Beach always makes me feel like I’ve been transported to a lush, tropical paradise. 1 Hotel’s gorgeous rooftop restaurant, Watr, is perfect for a drink or light bite with incredible views of the beach.
Luxe Boutique Feel
The Miami Beach Edition offers a family-friendly, chic and modern hotel experience with all the amenities you’d expect from a Miami getaway: great beach access, a stunning poolside, and a beautiful spa. One of my favorite touches is the captivating scent that you breathe upon walking into the main entryway (according to their website, black tea combined with elements that evoke citrus, smoke, chocolate, pepper and floral notes). The contemporary aesthetics and interior plant landscapes create a Miami paradise that makes this one of my favorite hotels in the city.
For the Culture
If you’re looking for something less beachy that still feels every bit as Miami, SLS Brickell and SLS Lux are two incredible options. Both are located outside of Miami Beach in the heart of Brickell, Miami’s trendy neighborhood and financial hub. These hotels offer close proximity to culturally rich areas like Little Havana and Wynwood.
What to Do
Nestled at the intersection of extravagance and tranquility, Miami offers a wide range of activities for every traveler with a mix of beach and city life. Here are some of my favorite ways to experience Miami living.
A Yacht Day with Friends
If you’re traveling with friends, renting a yacht for a half or full day is an excellent way to take advantage of the beautiful ocean views and gorgeous weather. Yacht rentals are popular among visitors and locals alike so there are plenty of high-end and more affordable options available. Boat rental communities, like Boatsetter, offer a wide-range of experiences including boat, yacht, and luxury yacht rentals.
Miami’s Hidden Designer Gems
Shopping in the Design District is one of Miami’s best-kept secrets. It’s an outdoor shopping scene that’s tucked away from the beach, the Design District feels more like Rodeo Drive than South Beach, but never disappoints. The Design District features a mix of high and mid-tier shopping—everything from Chanel, Dior, and YSL to Sephora, Alo Yoga, and Reformation.
Best Sweat Session
The Miami Beach Ocean Park & Path and Sunset Harbor are two great options for an outdoor run. Gorgeous morning sunrises and breathtaking sunsets in the evening set these apart as must-try experiences for every runner visiting Miami. If you’re looking for a more structured workout, Barry’s, Jetset Pilates, and 10 Min Fitness offer some of my favorite classes in the city.
Lower Cost Luxe
If you’re in the market for something more affordable that still feels like a splurge, a day pass at the Faena Hotel or 1 Hotel South Beach are two great options. Enjoy the best of luxe Miami hotel amenities (without the price tag of the hotel stay) by spending a day lounging at the beach or poolside for a calm and refreshing reset.
