PERSONAL FINANCE
Personal finance is one of the most important drivers of self-security and independence. Having a clear plan in place for meeting your financial obligations and reaching your financial goals can also put you in control of making choices about how you want to live your life and use the money you’ve earned. To me, this all means more peace, happiness, and life balance. But, being thoughtful about how you manage your personal finance situation goes beyond just adding to your savings account.
There are technical personal finance nuances, like how and when to begin retirement investing, managing risks and return of stocks and bonds, protecting your assets and family with the right insurance plans… and the list continues. Financial planning involves managing your money in a way that helps you achieve your financial goals and secure your financial future. It can have a significant impact on your overall well-being and quality of life — which is why the topic of personal finance is a key content pillar for this site. I’m so excited to share the lessons I’ve learned that have contributed to my financial freedom, and I’m also pulling in some top experts to share their insights and perspectives on personal finance.
“I likely only ended up creating a 401(k) and investment account in my 20s because I did as my co-workers were doing — many who were taught these things through their parents and network.” – Nancy Twine
There has been a lot of debate about why personal finance education isn’t offered in high school, though some schools are now starting to offer some basic personal finance education. For me, how to manage a basic savings account and write a check were the extent of my personal finance education until I graduated college and started my career at a big financial firm, Goldman Sachs (can you believe it?). Despite majoring in finance in college, I knew little to nothing about some crucial elements of personal finance when I graduated. I likely only ended up creating a 401(k) and investment account in my 20s because I did as my co-workers were doing — many who were taught these things through their parents and network. That wasn’t the case for me or many people I know outside of the finance industry, which is why I’m passionate about building accessible and digestible financial resources for this community to learn and grow from.
I’ve come a long way from what I knew in my early 20s about personal finance. I’m an active investor in dozens of companies across consumer, tech, real estate and healthcare. I also invest in fixed income, equities, private equity funds and structured products to diversify and maximize my earning potential. I’ve also put in place strategic insurance policies to protect my assets — and my ability to sleep at night. The mission of this site’s personal finance content is to empower you with resources, tools, and information to help you make more informed and confident decisions about how you plan for wealth now and in the future, and how you can protect and grow your savings potential.
I’m so excited to share what I’ve learned along the way and to also tap into my most trusted financial advisors’ and experts’ perspectives so we can learn together on this journey!
